FIRST TIMER’S GUIDE TO MOVING FROM HOME

Guide to Moving a Home

There comes a time when baby birds have to leave the nest. When it’s your time to leave home, it’s best to be prepared. There are many different aspects of moving from home for the first time, and unless you cover them all, you could find yourself in a jam. Becoming an adult is all about making plans and seeing them through. But in order to do that, you have to be organized and committed. During your move away from home, these areas may be tested. Here are a couple of tips for moving out for the first time and to guide you into your first apartment or home.

Once you have made the decision of moving from home, the first step is to locate an ideal place to live. You’ll need to consider the location – is it close to your job (and school if you are attending one). Do you want to live close to your parents? Then, there’s the cost of the new place. It’s easy to get carried away when looking for your first home, especially when you start to see beautiful pictures and amenities offered at high end communities. But remain realistic and choose a place that is right for your situation and budget. It is also can't hurt to have that moving out of home for the first time checklist!

Getting Your Finances in Order

Before you can move away from home, you have to make sure that you are financially stable. The worst time to move out is when you are working a job that has a sporadic schedule. If you don’t know how much money you’re going to bring in each month, you’re not going to be able to set a budget. And without a budget, you won’t know what you can afford. Don’t forget about utility bills like electric, water, sewer, cable and Internet. It’s always a good idea to have money saved up before you move out, that way you have a cushion to lean on in the event you lost your job or had your hours cut.

Okay so I have a lot of questions because im pretty nervous about living on my own but I guess I'll just start out with the one that I've been thinking about the most. So i was talking to my friend the other day and he told me that when he moved for the first time he decided to do everything himself instead of hiring a moving company. He doesn't own as much as I do, and I most likely wont have as much help as him, so would it be more practical for me to just use a moving company?

Hey Ivan,

I think the best thing for you to do is to decide what is more important. Your money or your move? If it is your money, you should try your best to find friends or anyone else who would be willing to help. You can even hire people you trust with your things to help you move. This would be way more cheaper than hiring an actual moving company. But if you are not worried about spending money, you should hire a moving company if you want your move done quickly. Let us know what you choose to do for your move.
